Ernesto Tamayo

Ernesto Tamayo

Ernesto Tamayo

Ernesto Tamayo is a great and still rising international talent. His right hand technique reminds me of John Williams, and his calm demeanor allows his listeners to simply be surrounded by the music rather than distracted by the theatrics some performers exhibit. He is enthralled by music of all kinds but most definitely is playing a role in bringing the world of classical guitar to a public that is still learning about this wonderful instrument.

I had listened to recordings of classical guitarists from earlier generations like Segovia, Lagoya, Bream, even Williams. All were great ambassadors of the instrument, but when I saw Ernesto Tamayo in concert on multiple occasions, the ease with which he appears to play, the smooth melodic lines, well, I was smitten with the instrument.
